Charles Copland
The Very Rev Charles MacAlester Copland was an eminent Anglican Priest in the second half of the 20th century.
Born into an ecclesiastical family on 5 April 1910 〔His father was Canon Alexander Copland ''Who was Who'' 1897–2007 London, A & C Black, 2007 ISBN 9780199540877〕 and educated at Denstone College, Corpus Christi College, Cambridge and Ripon College Cuddesdon, he was ordained in 1934 〔Crockford's Clerical Directory1940-41 Oxford, OUP,1941〕 and began his career with a curacy at Peterborough Parish Church, after which he was a Mission Priest in Chanda District, Maharashtra, until 1953. He was then Rector of St Mary’s, Arbroath〔(Web site of St Mary’s, Arbroath )〕 until 1959 when he became Provost of St John's Cathedral, Oban 〔''Scottish Episcopal Clergy, 1689–2000'' Bertie, D. M: Edinburgh T & T Clark ISBN 0567087468〕-a post he held for twenty years.
